Job Description

HDR currently has an opening for an entry to mid-level Civil CAD designer with a background in site/civil design and grading, land development, earthwork projects, or environmental remediation with the technical skills and desire to help support our nationally recognized Waste/CCR (Coal Combustion Residual) program. This is a full-time position but candidates who are within 2 years of degree completion will be considered, with an option to begin in a part-time capacity.

Based in either Denver, CO, Omaha, NE, Des Moines, IA, Charlotte, NC or Raleigh, NC, the Civil CAD designer will work under the direction of multiple professional engineers and designers to perform complex assignments including the development of conceptual layouts, permit level drawings, bid and construction level drawings, sketches, maps, and graphic representations of engineering designs using computer-aided drafting software. The position requires a good working knowledge of AutoCAD, grading, construction documents and technical knowledge of municipal civil engineering. Work may also entail data compilation, generation of spreadsheets, technical calculations, reports, research, and environmental compliance.

The candidate should have a strong academic and/or internship background along with an initiative to perform computer-aided drafting tasks related to land development, waste management, facility design, planning, and stormwater management for municipal and private clients. Candidate must be adaptable to conditions including fast-paced and deadline driven work environment.

In the role of Civil CAD designer, we'll count on you to assist Project Managers/Project Engineers with:

  • Preparation of permit, bid, and construction level drawings.
  • Conceptual layouts and use of 3D rendering technologies.
  • Performing overall site layout, grading, utility layout and drainage.
  • Performing routine drawing assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures.
  • Performing administrative duties associated with project management for civil/site projects.
  • Performing other duties as needed.
Qualifications


Required Qualifications

  • Associates or technical school degree.
  • 2+ years’ experience in civil design with computer-aided software programs.
  • A good working knowledge of CAD, construction documents and technical knowledge.
  • Proven team player.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • A good working knowledge of grading, topography, and drainage patterns.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
  • Local Candidates Preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D a plus.
  • MicroStation and ArcGIS is a plus.

The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00 per hour and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
