With the rapid deployment of 5G technology, cellular carriers’ installations are becoming increasingly unique. Radios, antennas, fiber routing, power requirements, stealth structures, and jurisdictional requirements are ever changing. Design teams must coordinate between engineers, CAD drafters, site acquisition staff, client deployment leads, construction managers, and jurisdictional requirements to ensure the carrier’s intentions can be met with minimal interruption to schedule and budget.Morrison Hershfield’s Telecommunication team is seeking a Design Manager to oversee CAD deliverables, direct engineering staff, and work closely with Project Managers to ensure our client’s design intentions are captured and delivered on schedule and budget. The Design Manager must be proficient in CAD drafting, familiar with telecom designs and site development, and experienced overseeing a delivery team. This position will take ownership of understanding jurisdictional requirements, our contractual scopes of work, internal team’s ability, necessary mentorship and driving team to meet our client commitments.
This position can be located in our Seattle or Fort Lauderdale (Plantation) offices.
The Design Manager will be ultimately responsible for understanding client and jurisdictional design requirements, overseeing engineering and drafting teams’ deliverables, and ensuring the design package meets our contractual obligations to the client, the client’s design intent, schedule and Project Manager’s budget.
Review and redline Construction Drawings for Site Development of Telecommunication facilities for the following disciplines: Architectural, Structural, Electrical & Mechanical
Understand good construction practices and basic architectural, electrical & grounding design
Communicate design requirements to engineering, design and drafting teams
Research and understand jurisdictional requirements, client standards, construction limitations, and internal capabilities
Oversee necessary training and mentorship of existing staff as required.
Proficient with AutoCAD
Willing and able to travel to project sites on successive days
Expected to be the technical point of contact on new projects, communicate project status to clients and internal team
Create and maintain spreadsheets/project trackers to ensure on-time deliverables within budget
Lead team of drafters to assemble design packages from start to finish including internal & external QA/QC process
Reviews architectural contract documents drawings and specifications for multiple projects
Coordinates structural, mechanical, electrical drawings and specifications with architectural contract documents for telecommunication facilities infrastructure design and construction
Conduct engineering research using the Internet, visiting production site, or consulting with municipalities
Attend site visits to measure up and sketch proposed telecommunication facility, including cell sites and critical facilities
Ensures that drawings are checked, approved and files in accordance with company quality system
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture is required
Minimum 4 years’ experience with Architectural/Engineering design firm
Prior experience in project management, critical facilities or telecom site design or electrical design would be an asset
Understanding of architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical disciplines and capability of coordinating these disciplines for critical facilities and/or telecom cell sites design
Strong organizational, written and communication skills
Plans review and building inspections and certification would be an asset
Proficient in AutoCAD
Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Office, Excel, Word)
Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
Ability to work in a team-based environment, fast-paced organization, as well as independently
Willing to work flexible hours, including overtime as required to meet project deadlines
Proven ability to provide technical assistance and mentor
Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle

- $60,000 - $70,000
